THE GROUND RULES of PHOTOGRAPHY

Throughout my 20+ year career, I’ve worked in multiple disciplines of photography all around the world - from working with creative directors to art buyers to shooting ultra-high-end weddings at the top venues throughout places like Monte Carlo, Lake Como, Paris, the South of France, Hong Kong, and NYC. I came to realize that each of these different experiences requires an intimate understanding of how to photograph the human subject.
Today I’m most passionate about bridging the gap between what I like to call “the two worlds of photography”; the professional world and the consumer world. So regardless of your current skill level or discipline of focus, I look forward to helping you improve your craft, avoid costly mistakes, and cultivate a fulfilling career of your own.
I'M CHRISTIAN OTH
Harpers Bazaar Top Wedding Photographer in the World
WONDERING WHETHER THIS IS FOR YOU?
Centered around photographing the human subject,
Ground rules was created for visual artists at every level
Although Ground Rules is ideally suited for beginners and newer photographers, even the most advanced artists should revisit these principles on a regular basis.
So regardless of how long you’ve been behind the lens, you’ll walk away from our time together with the confidence to harness your skills and understand the factors that make a truly successful shoot from a pro who has experienced it all.
Once you master the basics, you can later break the rules and really develop your signature style.
"I can confirm now that Christian's course is definitely full of valuable content for everyone!"
"Well curated, the information was well organized, concise."
I’m not going to lie, as a professional photographer I was really curious whether or not there was still some learning for me in "The Ground Rules of Photography". Something that made this course really outstanding to me is that Christian also shared a lot of his own, very personal thoughts and experiences. I’ve never heard, for example, thoughts on how to handle the energy on a shoot and these tips really widened by horizon.
I appreciated your masterclass did not have us do “tasks" before moving on to the next chapter. I enjoyed sitting back and listening and not having the pressure of completing an assignment.
"It is a really interesting course that makes you reflect on the human and creative issues"
Christian Oth has managed to create a photography course that not only brings together the fundamentals of equipment and technique to start in this world, but also talks about how the photographer has to relate to the environment, the clients, the rest of the creative team. It is a really interesting course that makes you reflect on the human and creative issues that you have to take into account to become a great professional.
Praise for the Academy
This curriculum for this course was chosen from a lot of conversations with career photographers as well as new photographer. There are some basic camera topics that any photographer will know, but it very quickly goes into areas that even the most seasoned pros will benefit from. Consider this as a resource or guide for your career.
Yes and no… photographers who are new to the genre need to know the rules first to then break them. Like this it will be a conscious decision when you are doing something that is deliberate.
Glad you asked. This course was designed for all levels. Really! We’ve had newer photographers join, saying it felt like a year’s worth of photo school in one hour. Well I don’t completely agree with that, but it’s akin to some incredible foundational knowledge that you’ll want to refer back to even late in your career.
No, this is the ground rules photography course. We will teach further courses down the line and this course will be the prerequiste.
